The Clarke-Simpson Memorial Award<\/strong>, formerly known as the Darryl Clarke Memorial Award<\/strong>, is presented annually at the Walter Gretzky Street Hockey Tournament<\/strong><\/a> to recognize the player who demonstrates the most clever and entertaining smack talk\u2014while keeping it lighthearted and sportsmanlike.<\/p>\n

Named in honor of VASHL Commissioner Darryl Clarke<\/a><\/strong>, the award pays tribute to his legendary wit and sharp banter, a skill that has long defined the competitive culture of VASHL. The trophy features a glass engraved with the phrase \u201cNever forget to be awesome\u201d<\/strong>, a nod to Clarke himself\u2014who is, undoubtedly, awesome.<\/p>\n

After an unprecedented five consecutive wins by Jody Simpson<\/a><\/strong>, his name was officially added to the award, solidifying its transition to the Clarke-Simpson Award<\/strong>\u2014a testament to both Clarke\u2019s and Simpson\u2019s influence on the league\u2019s tradition of competitive yet respectful trash talk.<\/p>\n
