The Yoga Hosers are an international street hockey team and a member club of the VASHL.
They were officially introduced as part of the 2019 expansion, which also included the Bethlehem Buddies. The Yoga Hosers are based on the 2016 American horror comedy film of the same name, written and directed by Kevin Smith —the second installment in Smith’s True North trilogy and a spin-off of Tusk. The film stars Johnny Depp alongside his daughter Lily-Rose Depp and Smith’s daughter Harley Quinn Smith.
The film focuses on Colleen Collette and Colleen McKenzie, two average 15-year-old girls that spend their days studying yoga with their guru, Yogi Bayer, and working an after-school job at a Manitoba convenience store called Eh-2-Zed.

Team History
Founded for the 2019 Walter Gretzky Street Hockey Tournament by former Salsa Sharks Tom Stright and David Findlay, the Yoga Hosers quickly made an impact, winning a championship title in their inaugural season. Unfortunately, just as the team’s success was rising, the COVID-19 pandemic forced the league into a three-year hiatus, and the Yoga Hosers disbanded, putting their future in question.
In 2022, the franchise was revived by Jason McIsaac and former members of the Golgothans, breathing new life into the team. Since their return, McIsaac has led the Yoga Hosers, ensuring their legacy continues to thrive in VASHL competition.
The Yoga Hosers sport a bold and striking color scheme: crimson red, black, and white. This palette ties into their View Askew inspiration from the 2016 film as their colors are also a nod to the Eh-2-Zed uniforms worn in the film, further connecting their design to its cinematic roots. Their imagery is centered around their mascot, Yogi Bayer, a playful nod to both yoga culture and classic cartoon bears.
In both 2022 and 2023, the Yoga Hosers faced off against the Bethlehem Buddies in back-to-back Walter Gretzky Cup finals, battling fiercely for the championship. Despite their determined efforts, the Hosers fell short both years, with the Buddies securing consecutive titles and solidifying their dominance in VASHL competition.
In 2024, the Hosers returned to the WGSHT final, eager to claim their first championship victory since the team’s revival. However, they encountered a red-hot Monroeville Zombies squad, who delivered a commanding performance to capture their first Walter Gretzky Cup. Though the Hosers loss in the 2024 final, their three straight championship appearances cemented them as one of VASHL’s elite teams, proving their ability to consistently compete at the highest level.
With a film-inspired identity, a championship pedigree, and resilience through adversity, the Yoga Hosers are a franchise built to endure, proving that their story is far from over.
