The Hit Somebody! Hitmen were an international street hockey team. They were introduced to the VASHL as an expansion team for the 2015 tournament.
The team is based on Kevin Smith`s upcoming hockey drama-comedy based on the song “Hit Somebody (The Hockey Song)” by Warren Zevon. The song, which is about a hockey player famous for fighting in the rink, was co-written by Tuesdays With Morrie author Mitch Albom, who is working with Smith on the project. In 2016, the team unveiled a new logo and jersey, drawing inspiration from Jay’s character in Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, further reinforcing their View Askew connections. The team were the second franchise to use the name, after the original VASHL team (now known as the Eden Prairie Mallrats). The Hit Somebody! Hitmen reached their greatest competitive achievement in 2018, capturing the Walter Gretzky Cup and solidifying their place among VASHL’s top franchises. However, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the league, and following its hiatus, the franchise ultimately disbanded. Though no longer active, the Hitmen’s legacy endures, remembered as a fierce, pop-culture-driven team that left a lasting mark on VASHL history. Contents |

Team History
The Hit Somebody! Hitmen were founded in 2015 by Bill Wasielewski, a former View Askew Vulgarians player and VAG substitute, alongside his co-workers from upstate New York. Under his leadership, the team entered VASHL competition, bringing their unique theme and competitive spirit to the rink.
While the Hitmen were a new VASHL team in 2015, they carried on the legacy of an earlier franchise that originally bore the Hit Somebody! name—the team now known as the Eden Prairie Mallrats.
Their strongest competitive moment came in 2018, when they secured the Walter Gretzky Cup championship, earning their place among the elite franchises of VASHL history.
Like many teams, the Hit Somebody! Hitmen were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, and following the league’s hiatus, the franchise disbanded. Though they are no longer active in VASHL, their legacy as a tough, pop-culture-infused team remains part of league history.
