| The Danger Rangers are an international street hockey team. They are a member club of the VASHL and were introduced as part of the 2025 expansion.
The Danger Rangers are based on Ranger Danger and the Danger Rangers, or simply Ranger Danger, a science fiction film which Kevin Smith has been working on since 2008. According to Smith, he said it is, “My stab at a comic-book/sci-fi movie. It’s in the vein of Flash Gordon, something I’ve noodled with a couple of years. Now I feel we are mature enough filmmakers to tackle it.“ The appearance of Ranger Danger first appeared in Clerks II on a t-shirt that Randal was wearing. The movie was intended to be his 10th film (following after Zack and Miri Make a Porno and Red State). In 2012 Smith was asked if he was no longer interested in making Ranger Danger. He said, “Well, now I can do it as a cartoon. Now I can do it as a web series if I want. It’s no longer just you have to do this one thing. I don’t know about anybody else, I’m sure it’s exciting for other cats, I hate taking tens of millions of dollars. That’s scary, man. It really is. Especially when they’re gambling on a dopey idea you had, like a make pretend idea. So for me, I kind of feel like I’d almost rather do that anywhere but have the pressure of “Here’s $50-60 million. You’ve got to make this movie gross.” I don’t know if it will. So at the end of the day, if I want to do it, I feel like I can do it comics, animation, web series, any number of things, TV now.” No new updates have been announced for Ranger Danger but the character made an appearance in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. Team History
The Danger Rangers were introduced as an expansion team for the 2025 Walter Gretzky Street Hockey Tournament (WGSHT), founded by past members of the SModawa 37s, most notably Mark Ricupito and Brandon Galligan, who became the team’s first captain.
The Danger Rangers boast a vibrant and eye-catching color scheme: blue and retro orange. This striking combination reflects their sci-fi-inspired identity, tying into their origins from Ranger Danger and the Danger Rangers, a long-teased science fiction film Kevin Smith has been developing since 2008—his take on a Flash Gordon-style comic book adventure. While the film has yet to materialize, the character first appeared in Clerks II, when Randal Graves sported a Ranger Danger t-shirt.
Although intended to be Smith’s 10th movie, production never moved forward. Over the years, Smith has explored other ways to bring Ranger Danger to life, including comics, animation, web series, and television, shifting away from the high-stakes gamble of Hollywood filmmaking.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding the movie, Ranger Danger made a cameo in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot, depicted as “a gritty, rebooted version of a childhood superhero fave.”
