The Golgothans are an international street hockey team and a produ member club of the VASHL. The franchise was added as part of the 2016 expansion, which also included the Salsa Sharks and the SModawa 37’s. The team is based on a scene in Kevin Smith’s movie 1999 film Dogma. The Golgothan – also referred to as a “shit demon” or “excremental” – is a vile creature composed of human excrement. It was brought into existence from the pain and misery of the people of Golgotha who were put to death by crucifixion and given form by the waste excreted by the victims upon death. Its stench is unbearable and can diminish a person’s will to fight, causing most to flee from it. In Dogma, the demon Azrael summoned a Golgothan to find and kill the Last Scion, Bethany Sloane. The monster failed thanks to the quick-thinking (or sheer dumb luck) of Silent Bob, who knocked the creature out with an aerosol. Since 2019, the Golgothans have been one of six VASHL franchises to compete in both the Walter Gretzky Street Hockey Tournament and the September Classic, proving their strength and commitment to the game. However, tragedy struck in 2025, as the team was forced to withdraw from the tournament following the unexpected passing of one of their players. Despite this heartbreaking loss, the spirit of the Golgothans remains strong, and hopes are high for their return in 2026. With a darkly comedic origin, relentless presence in competition, and a legacy built on both triumph and tragedy, the Golgothans remain one of the most unforgettable franchises in VASHL history. Team History
The Golgothans have been making their mark in the View Askew Street Hockey League since their introduction in the 2016 tournament, led by longtime Reaper Gavin ap’Morrygan. Always looking to make a splash, this team has brought determination and competitive spirit to the league year after year.
The Golgothans sport a bold and distinctive color scheme: black, yellow, café au lait French beige, and white. Their imagery is based on toilet-themed designs, inspired by the Golgothan demon from Dogma—a creature composed entirely of excrement, making it one of the most infamous and grotesque creations in View Askew lore. The team embraces this absurd, unapologetically crude aesthetic, leaning into bathroom humor with their branding while maintaining a strong competitive presence in VASHL. The Golgothans stand out as one of the most unique and visually unforgettable teams in the league.
Since their formation, the Golgothans have been led by a series of dedicated captains, each playing a crucial role in shaping the team’s identity and competitive presence in the VASHL. The team’s leadership began with Gavin ap’Morrygan, who captained the squad from 2016 to 2017, helping establish its foundation and early presence in the league. In 2018, Jason McGray took over, guiding the team through another strong season and continuing to build upon its reputation. The following year, Steve Colsanti stepped into the leadership role for 2019, ensuring the Golgothans remained a competitive force. After the COVID-19 pandemic, the team transitioned under the leadership of Tim Seymour, who has served as captain since 2020, maintaining the Golgothans’ legacy and spirit in VASHL.
From their Dogma-inspired origins to their tournament battles, the Golgothans remain an important part of VASHL history, and fans are eager to see how they continue to evolve.
