| The Leonardo Reapers were an international street hockey team and one of the Original Four member clubs of the VASHL, along with the Monroeville Zombies, Puck U, and View Askew Vulgarians.
The team took their inspiration from Kevin Smith’s 2006 film, Clerks II. The Reapers logo was featured on Randal’s hat. Leonardo, New Jersey is the home of the Quick Stop and RST Video. Kevin Smith directed the pilot episode of Reaper, to which the Leonardo Reapers were a subtle nod. Smith also executive produced the pilot and served as a consultant on the series. The team’s 2012 Walter Gretzky Cup victory was a testament to their defensive strength, offensive firepower, and unwavering determination. The championship game against the Hit Somebody! Hitmen saw the Reapers locked in an intense battle, but it was Trevor Cherewka who cemented their place in VASHL history, scoring the decisive winning goal to secure the cup for the Reapers. With a well-balanced roster and a dedication to their team’s legacy, the Reapers’ triumph in 2012 remains one of the most celebrated moments in league history. Though no longer an active VASHL franchise, the Leonardo Reapers remain an important part of league history, showcasing how cinema and hockey collided to form one unforgettable legacy. Contents |

Team History
Established in 2009, the Leonardo Reapers were one of the Original Four teams that helped shape VASHL, standing alongside the Monroeville Zombies, View Askew Vulgarians, and Puck U. The franchise held an undeniable commitment to competition, earning their Walter Gretzky Cup championship in 2012—a moment the team proudly embraced.
The team name and imagery were drawn directly from Kevin Smith’s 2006 film Clerks II. The Reapers logo was prominently featured on Randal Graves’ hat, making the team a subtle but fitting tribute to View Askew lore. Leonardo, New Jersey, the setting of Clerks, is home to the Quick Stop and RST Video, further tying the Reapers’ identity to the world of Smith’s films. The Reapers also referenced Smith’s involvement with Reaper, a television show for which he directed the pilot episode, served as an executive producer, and acted as a consultant on the series.
The Leonardo Reapers’ championship-winning run in 2012 was built on a formidable defensive core, anchored by Drez Peregrina, whose strong presence led the defense, and Warren Stanley and Trevor Graf, returning players who upheld the Reapers’ high standards. At the heart of the team was Gavin ap’Morrygan, an Original Reaper, who played every year with the squad, serving as its heart and soul and excelling in both defensive and offensive roles.
On the offensive side, the Reapers were powered by Trevor Cherewka, who secured their Walter Gretzky Cup victory by scoring the championship-winning goal, showcasing his dedication every shift. Tim Visentin was a consistent force in the team’s attack, while Mike Crandall, who took over the captaincy from Frank Ciampi, played all 10 seasons with the Reapers, earning a reputation as one of VASHL’s premier scorers.
The Leonardo Reapers always embraced a dark and intense aesthetic, with burgundy/maroon as a core element of their color palette. However, their original jersey and logo also incorporated light green and blue, giving them a more varied look in their early years. In 2014, the team underwent a major redesign, refining their identity with a finalized color scheme that leaned heavily into cream and black, complementing their signature burgundy tone. This updated look was a direct nod to the TV series Sons of Anarchy, which prominently featured reaper imagery. The Reapers embraced an outlaw motorcycle club-inspired aesthetic, reinforcing their gritty and rebellious persona in VASHL. Their new design gave them a commanding presence on the rink, making them one of the most visually distinct franchises in league history.
Like many teams, the Leonardo Reapers were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, ultimately disbanding after 2020. Though no longer active, their legacy as one of the league’s foundational franchises remains intact, with their 2012 championship and decade-long history cementing them as one of VASHL’s most iconic teams.
